A Seriously Spicy Food Competition
The Sarasota Chili Cook Off to Bring in Statewide Competitors
Beks Entertainment Group proudly announces the Sarasota Chili Cook Off, taking place at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds on April 10th, 2010. The Sarasota Chili Cook Off will feature live music, kid’s activities, corn toss and plenty of chili to taste. The cost to attend is $10 for adults, and children under 13 are free. Proceeds from this event benefit the Education Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc’s Student Emergency Fund. Chili Team registration and tickets are available for purchase at www.sarasotachili.com.
This is the first Cook Off in Sarasota to be sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS). Locals will compete against contestants from all over the state of Florida to produce the best bowl of Texas Red (no beans) on-site in three hours. Trophies and over $2,000 in prize money is given to the top 5 finishers, while the first place winner will also be eligible to compete at the 2010 International Chili Society World’s Championship Chili Cook-off. Awards will be presented for People’s Choice Chili and Best Booth.
“This is the only competition I have ever known where bribing the judges is a good thing,” explained Elise Lipoff, Sarasota Chili Cook Off Coordinator. She continued, “Sarasota may have experienced small cook offs in the past, but this event brings competition chili to a whole other level. We hope that the local cooks will represent Sarasota’s fiery spirit because cooks from as far as Colorado have already registered and want a crack at that $1,500 first prize for ICS chili and that spot to advance to the World’s Cook Off.”
The cost to register a non- ICS Member Chili Team is $90, which includes entry for a team of up to 4 people, a 10x15 space, water hook up, and ICS Membership fees. Teams are encouraged to create fun booths that entice the public to vote for chili and to win the Best Booth award.
For more information on team registration, vendor applications and sponsorship information, go to the Sarasota Chili Cook Off website: www.sarasotachili.com or contact Tim Bekkering, tim@beksentertainmentgroup.com.
