Dr. Christine Schmidt, Ph.D. is the chair of the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida. Her research is focused on engineering novel materials and therapeutic systems to stimulate damaged peripheral and spinal neurons to regenerate. She is also the president-elect American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), Editorial Board and an American Competitiveness and Innovation (ACI) Fellow from the National Science Foundation. She is currently on the Editorial Board, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research.

Dr. Schmidt  will be sharing her research and findings from the University of Florida in the Biomed field of medicine and research. She will also be outlining the business side of creating, launching and funding a biomed product in today’s market place.
Dr. Christopher Passaglia, Ph.D. is a Professor of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Florida, with an appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology. His research investigates how the eye communicates visual information to the brain under normal and disease conditions and uses the knowledge to engineer new technologies for basic and clinical vision research.  The work has garnered national awards at each stage of his career, including the Lindsley Prize from the Society for Neuroscience, NSF CAREER Award, and Thomas R. Lee Award from BrightFocus Foundation.

Dr. Passaglia will be discussing his research path to conceive, design, and fabricate a unique device for the study and treatment of glaucoma and other pressure-dependent medical disorders. He will also highlight the innovative research of biomedical colleagues at the University of South Florida.
