What is Intellectual Property and Why Should Business Owners Care?

Check-In & Networking 7:30-8:00 a.m.
Presentation begins at 8:00 a.m.

Ever wondered what “intellectual property” is?  If you think intellectual property rights are only for tech companies or large organizations with expansive resources, think again. Every business has some intellectual property, whether it be your company name, logo, website, domain name, product sold, or content created.  An understanding of intellectual property and its protection is vital for all businesses.

Elizabeth Stamoulis, Partner and Intellectual Property attorney at Williams Parker, will walk you through the basics. This event will provide an introduction to the different types of intellectual property (copyright, design and utility patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and digital assets), how they may relate to your business, and the protections available.  Liz will explain that there are cost-conscious, reasonable steps that can and should be taken by independent companies to protect their assets, add value, and defend against infringement by others.
