The Sarasota Bradenton Ferry Co. has launched their website and Facebook page to start interacting with the community regarding the upcoming launch of their first 149-passenger vessel providing transport from the 10th St. Pier in Downtown Sarasota, Anna Maria Island, and Riverwalk in Downtown Bradenton. The website, www.SarasotaBradentonFerry.com, currently displays a short survey for residents and visitors of the Suncoast. According the website, the survey will be available for 10 days and its goal is to '…learn more about the community and start building local relationships.' The website also announces that one lucky survey participant will win a ticket aboard the ferry’s maiden voyage and extravaganza.
“The Ferry has always been about community needs: expanding options, alleviating gridlock, and providing convenience or leisure. Since February and with the unanimous approval of this project, we have been working on the finer details, now we are ready to listen to the community.” said Chris Johnson, Director of Marketing. “We will be releasing a lot of updates on Facebook between now and our anticipated launch, including more ways for the community and community leaders to get involved”.
There is no specific date being provided for the launch now, but it is expected early next year. A marine operation of this scale requires a careful approach. Captain Sherman Baldwin, Director of Marine Operations, said “In the coming months, we will be working with local conservation organizations and The US Coast Guard to ensure we launch the safest and most environmentally friendly use of our waterways for transportation. Future riders will be comfortable onboard and able to depend on our schedule.” Regarding the schedule, he said, “We plan to take care of everyone: commuters, locals, and tourists.”
