MEALS ON WHEELS PLUS OF MANATEE WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE THE FOOD BANK OF MANATEE

Bradenton, FL – April 20, 2018 - Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, owner and operator of The Food Bank of Manatee, announces today its Feeding America member organization, Feeding Tampa Bay, will implement a regional model of distribution for the retail grocery store partnerships.

 The Food Bank of Manatee will continue to operate as a resource in Manatee County and offer collections and distributions of approximately 2 million pounds of food. These will be secured through community partnerships, including food drives, donations, and grants. The essential programs provided by The Food Bank of Manatee will continue to include produce on wheels, Summer Hunger weekend backpacks, emergency food for families, crisis boxes at pantries, and weekly baby baskets for babies under age two.

The Food Bank of Manatee is committed to ensuring services continue in Manatee County for our pantries, soup kitchens, and agencies.

While initially founded in 1972, with the purpose of providing hot, nutritious meals to the elderly and disabled residents of Manatee County, Meals on Wheels of Manatee, Inc. became so much more. The organization grew over the years in response to community needs, and the “PLUS” was eventually added to the name as a way of representing the many other services offered.The mission of Meals on Wheels PLUS is to assist individuals to live independently by providing nutrition and caring support services. Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee offers comprehensive care and essential programs that assist people to live independently. While services include delivering hot, nutritious meals to the elderly and disabled, other essential services include The Food Bank of Manatee, Daybreak Adult Day Care, Senior Enrichment Center at Renaissance on 9th, and Friendship Dining.
